Geological Time Period Project:

  1. You will be assigned to work in a group of 3-4 researching one of the following Geological Time Periods.

    1. Phanerozoic Eon

                                                               i.      Cenozoic Era

                                                             ii.      Mesozoic Era

                                                            iii.      Paleozoic Era

1.      Permian Period

2.      Carboniferous Period

3.      Devonian Period

4.      Silurian Period

5.      Ordovician Period

6.      Cambrian Period

    1. Proterozoic Eon

    2. Archean Eon

    3. Hadean Eon

  1. Each group will research answers to the questions below.  Research will be turned into a presentation for the class, which will include a poster for a visual aid
  2. All members of the group must work on the research, preparation for presentation, and must speak for the presentation.
  3. Please research the questions below:
    1. What time period does your eon/era/period cover?
    2. Describe the earth’s environment during your eon/era/period.
    3. Why is it different from the eon/era/periods that came before and after it?
    4. What are five significant things that happened in your eon/era/period?
    5. Was life present in your eon/era/period?  If so, what kind?
    6. How was your eon/era/period important to the evolution of the oceans?

  1. You have one day for research, one day to create a visual aid and one day to present your findings.

Mnemonic devices can be used to help remember the order that the periods and epochs occurred. The first letter of each word in the saying corresponds to the first letter of a period or epoch.  See the website below and then come up with one of your own!!!
