Gas Laws
Manipulating Variables
Student Directions:
Create a Data Table in your Lab book so you can Record the information from the Gas Lab. You will freeze two variables and manipulate two variables. Record 6 different Data Points for each set of manipulated variables.
|
Manipulated Variable: 1 ex: Pressure |
Manipulated Variable: 2 ex: Temp. |
| 1. 1.25 Pa | 275 K |
| 2. | |
| 3. | |
| 4. | |
| 5. | |
| 6. |
Write the following procedure in your lab book before beginning the activity.
Go to the Animated Gas Lab site: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/Animation/frglab2.html
The left column allows you to freeze 2 variables.
|
Freeze One Variable |
| Mass |
| Volume |
| Pressure |
| Temperature |
| STOP |
The class will begin by freezing the Mass Variable and the Temperature Variable. This means that the demonstration will keep Mass and Temperature the same during the entire demonstration.
When the animation begins you will record the Data produced by the other 2 variables in your Data Table.
To pause the demonstration at any time:
MAC: Click the mouse off the screen one time (display will stop moving), click back on the screen to resume motion of the display.
PC: Click on the "STOP" button for the browser (display will stop moving), then click on the link on the left side of the screen to make the display begin again.
(ask the teacher for help if you are having problems pausing the animation)
Record at least 6 different values throughout the demonstration.
Use the Data you collect to create a graph in your Lab book. Your graph should look similar to the one in the demonstration.
When you have completed the Data Collection and have made a Graph of your Data, then you may return to the Gas Lab site and choose 2 other variables to freeze and start the procedure over again.
Repeat this procedure until you have manipulated and frozen all the possible combinations of variables.
Download the Gas Laws Handout and answer the questions for Homework.
